Why I Love Queensbay Mall
Penang is sorely deprived of good shopping malls, so much so that Penangites only have a choice between two shopping malls when we want to get ourselves a dose of retail therapy. Folks downtown will naturally go to Gurney Plaza, located on Gurney Drive itself, right next to the swanky g Hotel. Folks residing in the Bayan Lepas and Bayan Baru area will throng Queensbay Mall. However, I have reason to believe that shoppers in Queensbay Mall are also from downtown and even from the mainland. I believe they have perfectly good reasons to do so, never mind the extra money they need to fork out for the Penang bridge toll. I myself visit Queensbay Mall at least once a week, and here’s why:
• It is HUGE! Longish-huge, rather. When it first opened last year, we were afraid that one day would not be sufficient to finish our shopping.
• Wide open spaces are available in the mall itself. This allows more room for people to move around without invading other shoppers’ personal space. Kids and toddlers would find it fun to run around in the malls too.
• Retail outlets are akin to those in the Klang Valley. With the exception of Ikea and Isetan, Queensbay Mall houses stores like The Gap, MNG, Esprit and coming soon… Forever 21!
• Parking is at a flat rate of RM1 only. You can shop from 10a.m. to 10p.m. and you pay only RM1.
• Shoppers are also spoilt for choice by the countless food outlets here. From fast food outlets like KFC and Mc-Donald’s to restaurants like Palace D’India, Dragon-i and T.G.I. Friday’s, you know you’ll never go hungry here.
• Collecting Jusco points is fun. Most of the time I will buy stuff from Jusco just because it is more convenient and because I KNOW that at the end of 6 months, I get a cash voucher for the purchases I have made. Since Jusco is the main tenant of Queensbay Mall, it just makes sense to shop here.
Queensbay Mall will turn a year old come December. I’m looking forward to the celebration and promotions that I am sure the mall will have.
